Now in its second century of service, the Ocean City Police Department provides full-service, municipal law enforcement for Maryland's only seaside resort with a year-round force of ninety-six sworn and eighteen civilian members.

The seasonal nature of the town creates a diverse working environment. Attracted by ten miles of sandy beach and other recreational opportunities, our winter population of about 10,000 grows to over 300,000 in the summer months, and our small town atmosphere evolves into that of a busy metropolis.

Qualified appointees train at the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in Salisbury, Maryland.  After graduation and upon completion of probation, personnel are eligible for Traffic Safety, K-9, Bicycle Patrol, Mounted Patrol, Community Relations, Criminal Investigations, and other specialized training and assignments.  Police Officers are eligible for promotion to Police Officer First Class after three years of satisfactory job performance.
