Seasonal Police Officer
Seasonal Police Officers supplement the year-round force in its delivery of services to the community. This assignment gives college-level criminal justice students and other qualified and interested persons the chance to experience first-hand the duties and responsibilities of a sworn Police Officer. Seasonal Police Officers work from patrol cars, foot posts, or on bicycles. Their duties include enforcement of state and local criminal laws, traffic laws, and investigating crimes and traffic collisions. Seasonal Police Officers also assist residents and visitors with a wide variety of concerns and problems.


Eligibility Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland Board of Education
  • 21 years old at time of academy graduation
  • United States Citizenship
  • Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record
  • Good personal background as determined by a comprehensive background investigation
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 with the ability to recognize basic colors

Selection Process
All applicants for the position of Seasonal Police Officer will compete in a rigorous selection process that consists of the following phases:

  • Written Test
  • Physical Agility Test
  • Obstacle Course
  • 220 Yard Shuttle Run
  • Body Drag
  • Board Interview
  • In Depth Background Investigation
  • Medical Examination
  • Drug Screening

Training Program
Applicants who successfully complete the selection process and are offered employment as a recruit officer will attend a structured and demanding 190-hour training program.  The recruit officer will receive law enforcement training in numerous topics that include:

  • Firearms Training
  • Constitutional Law
  • Traffic Law
  • Emergency Driving
  • Laws of Arrest
  • Criminal Law
  • Drug Identification
Recruit Officers who successfully complete the 190 hour training program will graduate and be sworn in as Ocean City Seasonal Police Officers. Seasonal Police Officers are assigned to one of six Patrol Watches or Special Units under the supervision of a Sergeant or Corporal.

$13.59 per hour
